Styles/Influences, Other Info: I sing and play rhythm guitar with the Clack Mountain String Band. I also play with John Haywood and Ponty's camper, as well as honkytonk gigs. I love singing mountain, oldtime and old country. I started up mountain banjo a little over a year ago and just love love love it. Jesse Wells gave me my first five minute lesson, i have also had the privilege of learning in person from peoples such as George R. Gibson, Jim McCowan, Brett Ratliff and Lee Sexton. I also like listening to recordings of and learning from KY greats like Banjo Bill Cornett, Morgan Sexton, Lily Mae Ledford, Dora Mae Wagers and fiddle tunes of Buddy Thomas. KY fiddlers Paul David Smith and John Harrod have been a big mentors. I am so thankful to Jesse Wells, his father Jamie and so many others here in eastern KY for living and breathing this music, and keeping it going. If it weren't for people like that, i don't know what i'd be doin. Probably still listening to bluegrass. haha just kidding. I love old traditonal bluegrass. But old time is one thing i now cannot live without. So thanks to all the living and those who've passed, who make, enjoy and keep the tunes alive. ps... last weekend of July, come to the Morehead Old Time Fiddlers Convention here in beautiful Morehead Kentucky!!

Styles/Influences, Other Info: Fraley, Jarrel, Buddy Thomas, Bela Fleck for his creative take on everything, every bassist that ever went before me, and about a hundred thousand others. I grew up on folk & rock & roll, switched from guitar to bass at 14 because the blues band I wanted to be in needed a bassist, came back to folk, then into blues & bluegrass for a short spell. I then met up with a fiddler that was into old-time. He invited me to a jam, and that's what I've been doing for the past year or so with the Erie Travelers, which includes Joel Specht, Kim & Joe Kengor, and Me! Always looking for a working band in NE Ohio, or one that is very active. I'm creative and experimental by nature, but know where the lines are musically. Been playing many years...

Styles/Influences, Other Info: I've been playing the banjo for a good while, though I've played many instruments before it, and I still have a soft spot for the button box. I've picked up a good number of regional picking styles, but I'm not one to split hairs--I am more interested in making music than I am in recreating a particular personality, place, or style. I generally always use picks on my Mastertone-style banjo, but none on my fretless. I like music with fire, but could do without machine-gun antics. Doc Watson is a favorite picker of mine, as are Sam McGee and Uncle Dave. I write many of my own arrangements and try to keep things fresh with a fair bit of improvisation. I work a vegetable farm in a very rural area of southern Huntingdon County, and my work week is rather long, but there are not many other players around here and I'd not mind traveling a bit to get together. Our weekend markets are in Washington, DC, so I have easy access to the metro area Saturdays and Sundays.
